Applications for the Grace Holt Memorial Award and the BLST Departmental Award are now open on UIC Scholarships and Awards Program (SnAP).

The Grace Holt Memorial Award honors undergraduate and graduate students who have worked actively to improve the lives of Black people. Eligible applicants must demonstrate a commitment to racial justice and have a GPA 3.0 or above. Recipient will receive up to $1,000.

Required Materials:

  • Completed SnAP application form
  • 500-word essay
  • Unofficial transcripts
  • Two letters of recommendation (at least one from a UIC faculty member)

The Black Studies Departmental Award provides both recognition and support for undergraduate students in the BLST Department. Eligible applicants must be a BLST major or minor OR have taken two BLST classes, have a GPA 3.0 or above, demonstrate academic excellence and/or be working under challenging circumstances. Recipient will receive up to $1,000. 

Required Materials:

  • Completed SnAP application form
  • 500-word essay
  • Unofficial transcripts
  • Two letters of recommendation (at least one from a UIC faculty member)
