Professor Jennifer Brier featured in Chicago Tribune
A Chicago Tribune article on an initiative to sponsor arts and humanities projects among the three University of Illinois campuses features comments from Jennifer Brier, UIC professor and director of gender and women’s studies. Brier, also a professor of history, is working with Barbara Ransby of UIC, Kathryn Oberdeck of UIUC and Devin Hunter of UIS on The Humanities Innovating New Knowledge (THINK). Their project will bring together more than 30 faculty from across the U of I System to create pop-up art exhibits and events that address social justice issues, such as incarceration, violence, wealth disparity and human rights. “We wanted to lead a project in the public humanities where community organizations are equal partners at the table, to work with people and not just study them, to center the work community-based organizations have been doing for the last 50 years and think about we can help amplify that work,” Brier said.
