Professor and Department Head Janes Rhodes book Featured in NY Times Article

Professor and African American Studies Department Head Jane Rhodes book was recently featured in a NY Times series. Her book Mary Ann Shadd Cary: The Black Press and Protest in the Nineteenth Century was discussed in Overlooked, a continual series of remarkable people. Professor Jane Rhodes states about Shadd Cary and her book, "She got a lot of criticism from black male leaders, even from some black women, because she was so visible and she was so vocal. And she said, ‘I’m opening the door for you, for black women, and I’m proud that I’m doing that and I’m trying to create a space for you to have a voice.’"
