BLST 100 (Intro to Black Studies) instructor, Prof. Cedric Johnson and students attend a 4K digital restoration of 1984 film, The Killing Floor, at Gene Siskel Film Center

Students from our Fall 2024 Introduction to Black Studies course, taught by Dr. Cedric Johnson, visited the Gene Siskel Film Center to screen a digital restoration of the 1984 film, The Killing Floor. The film was shot in Chicago in 1983 and explores the true story of Frank Custer, a Black sharecropper from Mississippi who journeys north to Chicago during WWI and lands a job on the “killing floor” of a meatpacking plant in the Chicago Stockyards. The screening is a part of Siskel’s "Workers of the World, Unite!" series. Learn more about the film series here!
