Join the Department of Black Studies for the One Million Experiments event at UIC -- a  performance, screening, and interactive conversation with filmmakers Damon Williams and Daniel Kisslinger about the new liberatory possibilities already in the making all around us.

The screening will take place in Student Center East (SCE) Tower Room 605 at 3:30 PM CST. Following the screening, join us for a conversation between the filmmakers and Martine Caverl, co-founder and executive director of Ujimaa Medics. The conversation will be moderated by Dr. Beth Richie, Professor of Black Studies and Criminology, Law and Justice at UIC.

Experiments Gathering: stop by before the screening for a tabling event in SCE 613 with on-campus groups and local organizations. Come connect and learn how you can get involved! The room opens at 3pm CST.

Film Description

One Million Experiments is a film exploring how we define and create wellness and reduce harm in a world without police and prisons. Built out of a podcast and curated collection of community-based safety projects created in the midst of the 2020 uprising, One Million Experiments remixes longform interviews with movement workers across the world who have created community-based safety projects. 1ME expands our ideas about what keeps us safe, celebrates the work already happening to build solutions that are grounded in transformation instead of punishment, and invites you to participate in the joyous work of liberation. We don’t need one answer to how we get free–we need one million experiments.
