Sha' Kurra Evans
I am a second year PhD student in the Sociology Department. I am also a member of the first cohort of students pursuing the Graduate Concentration in Black Studies at UIC. I received my BA in Sociology with a minor in African and African American Studies in 2018 from Iowa State University. Broadly, I am interested in the ways in which race, class, gender, and sexual identities interlock to shape the different experiences Black people face in the U.S. I also have interests in education, racialized violence, and urban sociology. I am currently working on a research project that explores the complexities of school choice for Black mothers in the CPS context.
