Professor Jane Rhodes interviewed in a Chicago Tribune story on “Sherman’s Showcase”

The Chicago Tribune interviewed Jane Rhodes, UIC professor and head of African American studies, in a story on IFC's new variety show parody "Sherman’s Showcase,” which follows a "Soul Train"-like show from 1972-present. Rhodes says the show might be seen as a throwback, but it is also very current. “I think the show is really ingenious in making a basic argument in that very little has changed in America’s racial climate. They’re sort of saying the things that might have prompted black popular culture in the ‘70s – many of which are still around today (whether it is the stereotyping of black bodies, overt racism or covert politicized racism), I think that seems to be part of the underlying core of it,” she told the Tribune. http://bit.ly/2YCXG9l (subscription required)
